MORRINSVILLE.
COMPLIMENTARY OCIAL. [Our own Correspondent.] “ Tlie most successful function of the kind ever held in Morrinsville ” was the general expression at the conclusion of the social tendered to Mr and Mrs Hinton and family, in the PhCEnix Hall on Thursday night last, There was a very large attendance, fully 159 people being present, which tends to show the esteem in which the guests were held, Mr and Mrs Marshall filled the position of host and hostess admirably. The presentation, which was made by Mr 11, Clifforl, took the form of a neat pocket case, containing sovereigns. Mr Hinton was .so feelingly affected that he was at the time unable to express his thanks in words, but, however, he was very successful in a subsequent attempt. A number of gentlemen spoke as to the many gcod qualities possessed by Mr Hinton.
A programme of songs and dances were also gone through until supper, when a full dance programme was carried on with spirit until shortly after 2 a.m. Those who did not dance adjourned to the Council Chambers which had been kindly lent for th b Occasion, where Mr Hinton’s health was drunk most enthusiastically. A detailed report will appear in Tuesday’s issue.
