MINING NEWS. Thames December 19.

Marototo G. an"d S.M. Co.— The return telegraphed yesterday of 5840/s. of bullion, valued at 6s per ounce, or £175, from the 18cwt. of ore from the Marototo G. and S.M. Go.'s mine, treated at the School of Mines, i& highly satisfactory. This ore, together with four more tons ot similar quality still on hand, was broken out from the lode where it was exposed at the time of the purchase of this mine by the Sydney syndicate, and the richness of the yield should tend to convince them that they were not misled when buying the property. Unfortunately, however, the rich seam of ore gave out, though had it continued of similar quality to the parcel just ti-eated, the mine would have been a most valuable one. There are also forty or fifty tons of second-class ore in the paddock, worth £20 or £30 per ton, which will be put through at an early date, bub ifc has not yet been decided to what kind of treatment it will be subjected. In the mine, stoping operations are proceeding as usual over the B drive, but there is no improvement to report. i Cambria. — Both intermediate drives on Nos. 1 and 6 leaders are penetrating a kindly description of sandstone, and colours of gold are seen when breaking down the quartz. The stopes below No. 2 level are producing quartz of payable grade. New Alburnia. — A few pounds of picked stone are occasionally obtained from the stopes. New Prince Imperial.— The leader in th© drive at No. 2 level is rather small at present, but the manager is hopeful that it will prove payable. The winze on the same leader at No. 1 level is down a depth of 17 feet, and is penetrating a very passable class of sandstone, while colours of gold are seen when breaking down the quartz.

UP-COUNTRY MINING. Parke s Furnace. —It; is stated that negotiations are proceeding between Mr Chambers and Mr Howell, manager of the Mount Aroha G. and S.M. Co.'s mine, for the purchase by tho latter of Parke's furnace at Karangahake. In the event of the bargain being concluded, the furnace wlil be removed to Waiorongomai. Waihi G.M. Co. — The work of casting a new tire for the roller mill has been finished, and it will replace the broken one in the course of a day or two. It is probable the work will be continued through the holidays, in order to have the plant in readiness for a start as soon as possible. Mata Goldmining Company. — 101b of picked stone has been obtained from the western stope over the low level.
