WAIORONGOMAI.

Tb Aroha S. & G, M. Co., Limited : Woi'ks in connection with tho very extensivenew plant, in ccnrse of erection for tin's Company, arc being pushed steadily ahead under- the. superintendnnce of Mr J. Howell, the well-known mining export, who recently took over 4 fnll charge of tho Company's property. The work of filling' in, etc., outside the now building is now nearly completed, and the flooring inside is also being brought to a level , prior to being concreted and bricked. That portion in the immediate vicinity of the furnaces it will be necessary to floor with buck. With respect to the inside woik, so much of which yet remains to be done, it is Mr llowell's intention to finish a portion nt a tim in a systematic manner as the woik progresses. The first portion to be completed »ill be that known as that which constituted the old 40-.-tamper lmtteiy. Am already stated in these columns, the 40 Hampers have alieady been raided 4 feet, to admit of the erection of- 14 concentrators (12 being "Fine's" patent and two u Triumph's)." These are now in position, and the flooring and tables pretty well completed, but thero remains a great deal of fitting, etc., to do, which will probably take another month to carry out. It is Mr llowell's intention, to start this portion of the plant to work by itself as soon as possible, saving all the concentrators until the rest of the plant is complete. Mr Howell means to put all tho ore (whether local, or purchased from a distance) treated over the concentrator?. Tho whole of the parts of the new Mowell's patent revolving furnace are now on the ground, and it is cxpecte I that this furnace will be put tog-ether, nn>l also the reverbaratory (or slaving) furnace completed within about a fortnight. Ths ore passes from the revolving to tho slaging furnace, and they will together be c;»puble of tr-ating up to 30 tons per day. After these furnaces htivo been completed, attention ! will be next principally directed to the erection of the blast (or water jacket) furnace, and also the amalgamating pan?, adjoining the- tailings plant, Tha existing " White " furnace, at tho tailings plant, is now being overhauled and raised 2 feet ; the size of the condensing chambers in connection therewith is also being increased, by which means it is anticipated the furnace will be capable of treating double the amount of stuff per day hitherto put through. The erection of the additional head of stampers (adjoining the old 40 head), will be left till last. Tho saw-bench will be removed within the next few days, and re- erected outside, under the old hoppers adjoining the tramway, where it will be out of the way, available for use at any lime, and will be driven by a belt from tho shaft newly erected for driving tho rock breaker. It will be some months yet before the whole oE the works will be completed. Work up the Hill : Mr John Goldsworthy has been appointed by Mr Howell as general mine manager, who will have charge of the men on the hill. Mr Goldsworthy is well-known as a straight- forward man, of considerable experience as a miner ; the appointment will give satisfaction locally. At present there is little^dqing oil the hill," but work will, be starteu\in , some of the ,mines in about" ten days or and by the middle of January ■Mr Howell expects to have a lalge, number of hands employed in the mines. Werahiko L,Hd.: Wo learn that the prospects of this mine are very encouraging, the reef being a well defined body of stone of a promising character.Colonist G.M. Co.: 'Judging by present appearances, the' prospects in this Company's mine areilso good.
