A great struggle took place down the straight, and when inside the distance post Melos gradually drew away from the daughter of Musket, and was landed a winner by a length, Lamond being a length and a-half behind Volley. Pearl Shell finished last. Time, 2min. 40sec. The Trial Stakes, a sweepstakes of Ssovs each, lft, with 200sovs added. For three-year-olds and upwards, which have not won a prize exceeding lOOsovs in value up to the time of entrance. Second horse 50sovs from the prize. One mile and a quarter. Hon. J. This order was kept until seven furlongs from home, when the race commenced in earnest. Abercorn held his own until reaching the entrance to the straight, where The Peer drew up level. The favourite gamely responded to Hale.'s call, bufc he could nob shake off the greab son of Darebin, who gradually drew away, and won a beautiful race by barely a length. Time, 2min 40sec. On the fall of the flag Stockwell was taken to the front, and was never headed, though Lyndhursb made a desperate effort when in the straight to overtake the leader, bub suffered defeat by a neck.
