Oxford Military Scholarship.

The authorities of the- Ofcfowl! Milifcauy College being desirous tJiatJ'fclHo^ad-vimt&gjsw which they claim for their ■egstem of eduoattion should become better known in. the eplonies, have decided to offer for competition two scholarships of £50 and- £25 re^ spectively in each of the principal i colonies* These scholarships, which wilt bo tenable; for three years, may be awarded ior general' proficiency or for special excellence in - one* or more subjects, which can bo regarded ias a fair test of the candidate's intellectual Eowers. The papers will be set by, the; eadmaster of the Oxford Military College,, and sent to examiners for the time being. The decision on the rotut?n of the papers from each colony will be made Known to the examiners., by cablegram, and the successful candidates will be expected to join the College within three months from the date of the election. These scholarships will be advertised from time to time in the best known . colonial papers, and all the necessary arrangements will be effected through the medium .of the Agent-General for each colony. It may be. remembered that at the time of the Exhibit tion the colonial representatives were entertained at the Oxford Military College on the occasion of the presentation of the prizes by Lord Wolseley. The College is a very prosperous one, and has been exceptionally* successful in passing candidates for the!, army into Sandhurst. On the. Council, are many distinguished officers and noblemen, who are interesting themselves in the causes of military education, such as Lord Wolseley, Lord Wantage, Lord Napier (off Magdala), the Marquis of Hertford, theMarquis of Lome, General Sir Drightont Probyn, General M cMurdo, Colonel Duncan^, C.8., and Major-General Salisbury. Tha colonial representatives, on the Council ax-.e Sir Chas. Tupper and Sir Saul Samuel (New South Wales), Sir Waller Buller (New Zealand), Sir James Garrick (Queensland), and Sir A. Blyth (South Australia),, Mr J. Cordy Jefferson, a novelist and, critic of some note, whoso " Real Shelley" and " Heal Lord Byron %) led to a considerable- discussion when they appeared, is about to start on a lecturing tour in »Austialia and New Zealand.
