COLONIAL NATIONAL DEBTS. SIR WM. FITZHERBERT AND SIR D. BELL DEFEND THEM. (Reuter's telegram).
London, May 11. At a meeting of the Colonial Institute last night, Mr Baden-Powell read a paper on colonial securities. Sir Win. Fitzherbert took part in the debate which followed. In the course of his speech he declared that there was no ground for the English people to fear that the colonies would repudiate their liabilities. Sir Dillon Bell also spoke, alluding to Froude's " Ooeana," and denounced the author's comments on New Zealand.
