The police have aacerta ; ned that Cfaae. Augusts Smyth, a local preacher, who on Tuesday last was sentenced to live yearB 1 imprisonment for defrauding Mr Retalliok of £1,200, previouely imposed upon several people in Dunedin and ChnetcUurch, where he was suspected of incendiarism. Ho has reeoently married a girl while hie wife and children were alive. He will probably bo indicted for bigamy.
