THE GOVERNMENT POLICY. Strict Economy and No More Borrowing Wellington, November 8.
It is freely rumoured that one result of the. long Cabinet Meetings held recently is an important modification in the goneral policy of the Government. According to thia rumour Ministers Laving observed -withL deep concern the unfavourable result of the last loan and the large and perpistent ialting off in the revenue have come to th 6 conclusion that a policy of strict economy in administration and of resolute abstention from further increasing the debts of the Colony must be carried out until matters, improve. It is said tbat even those members of the Government who have hitherto consistently been moat favourable to what is commonly styled a " progressive " and "courageous" course, now recognise the advisabltness of " putting on the brake for a 'time."
