Lo>do.v, Novembci -'J The well-known Australian tiadeL, tho ship Melpomene, has been caught in a cyclone off Madras. The Melpomene had on board a large numbero f pilgrims for Mecca, of whom twenty-three have died from the injuries received during tho buftetinga of tsxe vessel. The captain and crew were also hurt. Mr J. Norton has assured Cardinal Manning that his scheme, whereby emigrants 'might be assisted by State loans, \voulJ not bo successful.
