PAEROA POLICE COURT.— WEDNESDAY. (Before H. W. Northcroft, Esq., R.M.)
A. J. Mitcbell was charged with being the owner of a horse found wandering in the streets of Paeroa township. Constable Mitchell deposed that the horse in question belonged to him, and he laid the charge against himself in order to show that in the execution of his duty he had no respect of persons, but would deal with all alike when a breach of the " Police Offences Act" was committed. In this case the horse had made its way out of a well secured paddock by leaping the fence. Fined ss, and 7s costs. Samuel Mitckell Gribble was charged with fraudulently converting to his own use a chestnnt gelding, value £8, the property of John Vuglar, Paeroa. When charged with the offence accused said, " You can have either the horse or his value, whichever you like." Upon the ■witness making this statement, His Worship said it was not necessary to go any further with the case, which w.as therefore withdrawn, and accused liberated.
