MARRIAGE OF MISS CHAPMAN. A Freethinkers Wedding.

Miss Tessie B. Chapman, the talented young lecturess, who has just finished a course of lectures at the Opera House, was married on October 28 at the Registry Office by Mr J. M. Lord (District Registrar), to Mr Isaac Selby, who will be remembered as M.r John Buchanans antagonist in the public debate which took place in the Theatre Royal rather more than a year ago anent the Mosaic account of the Creation. Misa Chapman was dressed in an elegant cos tume of ivory satin, the present of the Rationalistic Syndicate. At the conclusion of the civil ceremony the happy pair drove to the residence of Mr and Mrs W. C. Dennes, who had provided a sumptuous wedding breakfast. On alighting, the bride was presented by Mr Joseph Evison ("Ivo")witha handsome bridal bouquet, and both bride and bridegroom received the cordial felicitations of their friends. Mr Dennes presided at the wedding breakfast, and Mr Evison occupied tho vice-chair. After the usual havoc had been wrought amongst solids and sweets, the Chairman, in a neat speech, proposed the bridal toast. He wished Mr and Mrs Selby "health, happiness, and prosperity," and he felt assured that their future career would redound to the creditand further the advancementof Freethought. The toast was drunk in bumpers of champagne. Mr Selby ably responded. The Vice-Chairman proposed the health of Mr and Mrs Neal (Mr Selby 's brother-in-law and eißter), and Mr Neal suitably acknowledged the compliment, Mr W. Cooper, in a highly complimentary speech, proposed the health of Mr and Mrs Dennes (the host and hostess). He praised them highly for their kindness and generous hospitality. Mr Dennes replied. The remaining toasts were "The Rising and Coming Generation," proposed by the Chairman and responded to by Mr Wm. Cooper, anc} " The Press," proposed by Mr Cooper and acknowledged by the representatives present. Invitations have been issued by the "Rationalist" Syndicate to a ball in honour of the marriage. 1 ' •
