A Plucky Female Gaoler.

New York, Sept. 20.— A " Sun " special irom Columbia, S. C, of the 19th, says : The gaol at Camden has for a long time been considered insecure, and for this reason the prisoners have recently been kept in cells and not allowed the privilege of the corridors. The gaoler ia a cripple, and has been confined to bed for several months. During this time his duties have been attended to by his daughter, Miss Gaskins, and she proved herself well worthy of the trust reposed in her. On Friday evening a new lot of prisoners were received at the gaol, and as the prison was already crowded, nine of them were locked up in an old cell which had not been used for some time. That night one of the prisoners managed to get out of the cell into the corridor and by some means procured a piece of iron, with which he broke the lock and released the other eight. They immediately began prying off the bars of one of the windows, and in a few minutes all the others would have been free. At this juncture, however, Miss Gaskmß heard the Doise, and the plucky little woman at once pioked up a bar of iron, unlocked the outer room, and rushing into the corridor where the prisoners were working at the window, she drove all of them baok into their cell in short order. She kept guard at the gaol until morning andjoaanaged the prisoners, several of whom were noted negro desperadoes, and one convicted of i murder and under sentence of death.

In Sweden all girls who have finished their •ducation are regarded as Swede girl graduates.
