Admirable Sea Sketches by a Young Aucklander.

•A little novelette, made. up of a.numberof sketches of life aboard a man-of-war ot today has lately been issued by Simpkin, Marshall, and Co., of London. It has had a very good run, and is pronounced by nautical men to give the best sketch of a "middy's " life in Her Majesty's navy of to,daythat has yet appeared. The book is published anonymously, but it is no breach of confidence to say now that the author is a young Aucklander-in fact, a son of Dr. Shortland, whose name has been so loDg, and so conspicuously connected with the history of New Zealand.
