Admirable Sea Sketches by a Young Aucklander.
•A little novelette, made. up of a.numberof sketches of life aboard a man-of-war ot today has lately been issued by Simpkin, Marshall, and Co., of London. It has had a very good run, and is pronounced by nautical men to give the best sketch of a "middy's " life in Her Majesty's navy of to,daythat has yet appeared. The book is published anonymously, but it is no breach of confidence to say now that the author is a young Aucklander-in fact, a son of Dr. Shortland, whose name has been so loDg, and so conspicuously connected with the history of New Zealand. We cull two very touching incidents which display the author's power of graphic writing :—
