Disturbance at a Salvation Army Meeting.
At Crowe Polico Court, on Tuosday, Jamos Hough, a youth, was charged with riotous conduct in tho Salvation Army barracks, Camm-streot, Crowe, a placo licensed for public worship. The disturbance took placo on tho 1st inst. during a servico conducted by "Major" Paterson, who has obtained somo notoriety in connection with the faith-hoaling works. Whon a hymn was sung tho defendant and a number of othors prolonged tho chorus, repeating it sevoral timos and stamping with their feet. — Mr Thomas (a magistrate) : I thought that you wero going to convert thoso rough boys.—" Sovgeant " Robinson : Thoro is a notice in tho room that any person disturbthe meeting will be "persecuted." — Policeconstable Hibbort said that the defendant was ono of the most prominent in causing the disturbance. — " Captain " Walker said that for sixtcon Sabbath ovenings consocutively the row carried on had been dis' graceful. It had causod maay of tho more respectable members of the congregation to leave them.— 1'or the defence, Charles Eaton said that a hymn was sung, and thon Major Pearson gave them ton minutes "to do what they liked," and they sang and repeated the chorus. — Tho Mayor said that the opinion of tho magistrates was so j overly balanced that they had docidod to dismiss tho caso.
