SUPREME COURT. CRIMINAL SESSIONS. FRIDAY, OCTOBER 3.

Forging and Uttering.— Frank Henry Tanqueray James was arraigned upon an indictment charging him with forging and uttering with intent to defraud, and with larceny of anumberof photographic views, on the 9th August, the property of R. 11. Barfclett, of Auckland. —Prisoner' pleadod not guilty. — Mr Williamson, for tho prosecution, represented the case, and Mr Napier appeared in defence. — The evidence of Frederick William Edwards, Mr Bartletts manager, appeared in our last edition. — Alice Bowring, saleswoman at Mr Bartletts, deposed that Mr James took her place at certain times, when views were *old to customers ; particulars and amounts were entered into a day-book ; she never sold views to Mr James ; she had been two years in tho business. If an employe" fancied any particular view, Mr Bartlott would give a copy by asking tor it —Mary Hem as, proprietress of a lodging-hcube in Greystreet, where the prisoner lodged, deposed that several of the mounted views were placed against the walls of prisoner's bedroom. The prisoner's box ■was opened by Mr Carroll at her request. -■ Detective Walker produced 61 views found in prisoner's box. — Constable Alex. MeGilp, stationed at tho Bay of Islands, deposed to arresting tho prisoner at an hotel shortly after his arrival by steamer. He charged him with forging and uttering. He sent him on to Auckland. — Mr Napier then addressed tho jury in defence, and His Honor summed up. Tho jury found a verdict of guilty, with a recommendation to the mercy of the Court. — The chargo of forging and uttering a bill of exchange, purporting to have been endorsed by Henry Sampson, Avith intent to defraud, was next heaid. Tiio prisoner pleaded nol guilty. — Mr Napier in defence. — The particulars of this case will be fresh in the minds of our readers. Tho prisoner lodged with Mrs Homus, a lady who keeps a boarding-house in Grey stieet, and he owed her £10 IGa for board, etc. Ho tendered in payment a promissory note, signed by Henry Sampson. The noto was dishonoured. The witnesses who gave evidence weie Mary Hcmus, Charles E. Sampson (of College Hill), Constable MeGilp (of the Bay of Islands), and Detectivo Walkor.— Mr Napier addressed the jury in defence, but called no witnessos. — The jury found prisoner guilty, and His Honor reserved .sentence.
