Desperate Deed of a. French Gardener. Paris, February 29. —A terrible tragedy was enacted to-day in the south of France. A gardener named Chave, employed at the convent in Serviane, near Marseilles, was recently dismissed for laziness. To-day, while the Sisters were walking in the grounds, and at a moment while they were in a secluded place, Clave suddenly appeared. The Lady Superior asked him kindly if he had found work. Clave, without replying, drew a revolver, [and discharged six barrels, killing the Lady Superior and mortally wounding one of her companions. The remainder fled, shrieking for help. A number of peasants gathered, but Cheve reloaded and kept them at bay. Two gendarmes then arrived and closed with Cheve, who fired twice without hitting them. One gendarmes shot Cheve in the chest, and another bullet penetrated tne murderer's ear. Cheve, in his dying agohy, inflicted on himself a third mortal wound with his own revolver.
