"CALENDAR OF BATTLES OF THE BRITISH ARMY."

This is a work we should have looked for from the press of an English garrison town rather than among the publications of a quiet, non-military, peace-loving colonial community. It has involved a very oxtended and laborious research, and from

such tests as we have applied in a hurried way, seems to be thoroughly accurate. The period covered extends from the battle of Hastings in 1066 to Tel-el- Kebir in September, 1882. The regiments of the British Army, with their original and present (territorial) titles; the date when each regiment was raised, with the name of the first colonel and the title it then bore, are given. For the sake of clearness, the present titles are printed in red and the original in black. The Calendar is an excellent specimen of chromo-lithography. War is allegorically depicted in the centre of the sheet, and below it are representations of the Victoria Cross and New Zealand War Medal. To the military families in the colony, of whom there are not a few, this calendar will be an object of great interest. The Auckland publishers are Upton and Co.
