The Aroha News AND UPPER THAMES ADVOCATE.

SATURDAY, MARCH 15, 1884.

'This above all —to thine own-sel f bo true Ani it must follow hs the night the day, Thou canst not then bo falsa to any man.' —Shakespeare.

In tiiis itfsuo we publish no less than t'iree distinct lettera from correspondents relating to postal arrangements m this district. " Observer "m his letter complains of a piece of such gross carelessness with regard to the delivery of mails, that were it not for the known integrity of the person who sends us the communication under the norn de plume referred to, we -should be inclined to think some mistake had been made by the writer. With regard to " A Sufferer's" statements, there is not the least doubt

that the changes he complains of have

been recently made to the very great m convenience of the public, without any \mcreased despatch m the transit of correspondence. We, certainly think were the grievances laid before the Chief Postmaster m the proper light, he would v> - • " ■■:'.' -. !'ac. n;-y ;ir:\jn,yements. -..':■. I-, !-a.-([ i.ney that m this

important township we cannot, reply to [loir-: tors arriving "by Hamilton majl till second day after arrival. We particularly wish to drliw attention to' the 'letter signed " Silex," and which deals entirely with the question of the establishment of a branch post office up . the Hill. A short time ago, we recorded with regret ' the fact that all steps to establish such at present had been abandoned. Now, there is not the slightest doubt that there is a very great need for a post office for the special convenience of the large body of men working m our mines. Many of these, married men, of necessity living apart from their families, are continually requiring to send remittances home, and to do this they mtist either hand the money over to any one going down to Waiorongomai or Te Aro!ia, or lose a day's wont to obtain the order themselves. The " return" made of correspondence to and from tlafi Hill that was recently made, is no just criterion for the postal authorities to be guided by, as it is well known at that time nearly all the miners were out on strike, and work at a comparitive standstill. We sincerely hope that the prompifc aieps will be taken to supply the much ueeded branch office.
