FREAK DINNERS.
The American millionaire philanthropist. Mr George A. Kessler, has died In Paris at the age of 57, after a painful illness. Mr Kessler, who became interested in the Moet et Chandon champagne firm after a remarkable business career in the United States, was famous as a fiver of "freak*' dinners. One of his est remembered efforts in that line in London was a North Pole dinner at the Savoy, for which the winter garden was used. The guests sat among icebergs, and the waiters were dressed as Eskimos. On ano'ther occasion he entertained £4 guests to dinner in a Venetian gondola, floating in the Savoy courtyard, which was flooded for the occasion and decorated with Venetian scenery. This fantastic meal worked out at something over £IOO for each guest.
