The Duke of Portland, in an interview, said the best way for Great Britain and France to show mutual affection was in a practical sphere. This was what he had tried to do in forwarding to the war-scarred districts of France a small part of what they had lost. The British Agricultural Committee had already raised £75,000 with which cattle were being purchased for the farmers on the old battle front.
