SERVANTS' REVENGE.

The social sensation of the month-at Lob Angeles, California, is the attempt to poison Miss Anita Baldwin, daughter' of the late "Luckv" Baldwin, the millionaire racing man. The facts came to the public through a letter Miss Baldwin wrote to Senator James D. Phelan, who has been prominent in anti-Japanese legislation. The poisoning attempt is alleged to have followed the dismissal of Japanese servants by' Miss Baldwin. The method employed was the favourite Asiatic one of placing tiny bits of bam ; boo in the food. ' When the food is absorbed by the digestive fluids, the bamboos are left sharp and hard as steel in the victim's stomach. Agonising pains and death usually follow. Mjss Baldwin's life was saved only by the administration of violent emetics.
