PLUNKET SHIELD MATCH. AUCKLAND r. HAWKE'S BAY. Prett Association. AUCKLAND, December 26. The first Plunket Shield match of the season, between Auckland (holders) and Hawke's Bay (challengers), was commenced yesterday. The Auckland batsmen played bright, crisp cricket. N. C. Sneddon, Auckland's captain, was in his best form, and gave only on« chance before reaching the century. His partnership with Smith realised 222 runs. Smith also gave a fine exhibition. C. A. Sneaden marked his entry into Plunket Shield cricket by scoring 119, after a cautious innings. Following are the scores:— AUCKLAND. First Innings.
