The trip was completed in the fast time of 27 hours at reduced speed; the fuel oil consumed amounting to less than six cases. What proved to be of great assistance was the information Mr Arnesen received before, setting out from Wellington from, Mr Bates, meteorologist, regarding the wind at the various stages of the passage. The Bemoana has a length of 42ft with a 9.6 ft beam. She has two masts, and is ketch-rigged. The interior is finished in red plush. There are eight commodious folding berths, and she has accommodation for 50 passengers on trips inside the Heads. Built nine years ago by Messrs Lane, boatbuilders, Auckland, she was employed for some time in a passenger and mail service. Subsequently she was acquired by a Wellington gentleman, who used her as a pleasure boat running to the. Sounds and elsewhere.' With her 40-horse power fou»-cylin-der Daimler engine, her speed averages 10 knots, or about 2J knots more than the Buahine. Mr Arnesen speaks in. the highest terms of her general capabilities, and especially of her steady gliding motion when encountering head seas. At no time during the trip was her deck awash.. After undergoing survey she will be ready for commission about the beginning of the New Year, and will be engaged principally for fishing tours and cruising.
