PIGEON FLYING.
The Canterbury Pigeon Flying Club flew I a race from Walouru last Saturday, Sixty birds were liberated by the stationmnster, > at 6 a.m., in cloudy weather and sou'-west wind, which changed to a nor'-easterly as the birds neared home. The birds put up good times, very little time dividing the first six owners. The winner was Mr E. Fuchs's No. 490, which flew the distance of 340 miles 527 yards air-line in 8 hours 53 minutes 48 seconds. The following is the velocity recorded by each owner's bird: — E. Fuchs's No. 490, 1122 yds per miuutc; W. Cumming's Calculation, 1120; F. Wilson's No. 01, 1119; F. Kingsford's Pcrlo, 1118; F. Smith's Beauty, 1114; G. Robertson's Renown, 1114; G. Billcliff's no ring, 1110; B. Finnegan's No. 131, 1101; €. Close's Salute, 1099; Woodhouse Bros.* No. 013, 1078; L. Wilshire's Man-of-War, 1074; A. Buckley's No. 110, 1070: H. Duffleld's No. 713, 1003: J. Hislop's Hard Luck, 904; G. Henderson's No. 217, Dole's No. 31, 015. Mr E. Fuchs also wins Mr J. Harvey's special prize. Mr F. Wilson will hold tor one year the club's Walouru challenge trophy for nominated special bird.
