TENEMENT CASES.
CLAIMS FOR POSSESSION. In the Magistrate's Court yesterday after- | noon, before Mr V. G. Day, S.M., three j claims for possession of tenements were ] heard. Ann Reed (Mr R. H. Livingstone) proceeded against Caroline Christiania Hill for I possession of a tenement. j Mr Livingstone stated that the plaintiff was 82 years of age, and had bought the house claimed, at 140 Carlylc Street, and j now desired to live in it. She was at present living with her daughter In a very small house of four rooms. There, were ] seven in the family. Defendant said thai she had tried hard ! to get a house, and failed. She had four I children, two of whom were at present ill, I and a delicate husband. Mr Day said that the hardship appeared to be more on the defendant's side than the plaintiff's. He knew from personal experience that houses were non-obtainable at present. Defendant: People are beginning to look! down on one when one asks for a house I to live in with one's children! Mr Day adjourned the ease for four weeks to enable defendant to look round ! for a suitable house. Nonsuited.—Winifred Marchantou claimed i possession of a tenement from William Bootherstone (Mr T. S. Dacrc). Plaintiff! was nonsuited on the grounds that acccp- • tance of rent-moneys was equivalent to a Waiver of the notice to quit, Ebenezer .Martin Mulligan (Mr H. H. [ Ha una) proceeded against Edward Keys (Mr j C. S. Thomas) for possession of a tenement, j Plaintiff was nonsuited, with costs.
