The Post Office has been advised that the Tawera, which left Sydney for the Bluff on September 8, carried 19 bags of mail for Christchurch.
A meeting of members of tho Returned Soldiers' Association who are interested in the.formation of a cricket team will be held in the association's rooms at 8 p.m. on Monday next. The Maheuo, which left Sydney for Auckland yesterday, has 89 bags of United Kingdom mails for Christchurch. Tho Kaitangata, which left Sydney yesterday for Dunedin, has 17 bags of Australian mails for Christchurch. The widows of Seamen Jaiton nnd Haskin, of Auckland, and Rooke, of Australia, applied to tho Arbitration Court claiming compensation, from tho owners of tho vessel for the death of their husbands who sailed in barquontine Lyman 1). Foster. The vessel was reported missing at Lloyd's in January, 1.920. Judgment for £SOO each was given to Mesdames Jaiton and Haskin, and the third case was adjourned for fuller evidence, says an Auckland message.
Tho Lancaster Park Board of Control last evening unanimously turned down a proposal to let the advertising rights at the park. A Wellington linn of advertising agents wrote offering to negotiate for the privilege. The letter mentioned that one of tho Wellington parks derived a revenue of £4OO per annum from hoardings and programmes. Members were unanimous that tho erection of hoardings should not be considered, one member expressing the opinion that the City Council should be ashamed of itself for allowing certain hoardings to bo erected in the city recently. A special meeting of the Board of Control of Lancaster Park was held last evening to consider plans in connection with the provision of a motor enclosure. The chairman (Mr C. R. Clark) reported that several members of the board had met at the park ou Monday last, when the rearrangement of the grounds near the proposed motor enclosure was considered. A plan had been drawn up which he submitted to tho board for f approval. After discussion a few minor alterations were made, and the plan was approved. It was resolved to erect tho necessary walls and buildings in brick.
