STATE RAILWAYS AND TRAMS. INCREASED RATES PROBABLE. By Cable. — Press Association. — Copyright. (Roc. Aug. 18, 10.35) SYDNEY, Aug. 18. Further increases in railway and tramway rates are foreshadowed in the Financial Statement which shows that in the past year the earnings of the railways were .€13,000,000, and of the tramways £2,800,000. The respective expenses were £9,500,000, and £2,400,000, leaving a total credit for both of £3,900,000. The interest charges amounted to £4,000,000. The total deficit was £137,574.
