_—- ■» in ■— I CONCLUDING DAY'S RACING. | The New Zealand Metropolitan j Trotting Club's August meeting was brought to a conclusion to-day, under dull and cold weather condi-; tions. Under the circumstances there •was a satisfactory attendance, though most of the visiting sportsmen had taken their departure. The track was again on the heavy side, but it improved considerably after each race. Details are:— MIDWINTER HANDICAP (saddle), of 3(10 sovs. For unhoppled trotters. Class 4.2. Succory and Moving Picture started smartly, but Ixidy Linwood and Marama Girl refused to settle down. When half a mile had Leen covered Merry Bingen was out in front with Succory, Marvolo being most prominent of the others. Passing the stand for the last time Merry Bingen was going comfortably in front from Succory and Marvolo. From this out the favourite had matters all his own why, and won by four lengths. Joyful started smartly, and, at the stand, was just clear of Trooper Dillon, Ariadne, and Matty's Boy. When half the distance had been covered Matty's Boy improved his position, while Rorke's Drift and. Ariadne joined the second division. Matty's Boy was first into line for home, but in the run to the post both Rorke's Drift and Joyful passed him, the former winning a good race by two lengths. -At half a length's interval came Matty's Boy, just in front of Our Chum and Asturio. Going along the back Albert Cling had opened up a useful lead from Moneymaker, Emilius and Sherwood, with Author Dillon improving his position. Passing the stand for the last round Albert Cling was three lengths clear of Emilius and Moneymaker, Author Dillon having worked his way into fifth place. Two furlongs from home the last-named ran up to the leaders, and in a great finish defeated Emilius by a neck. Two lengths back came Sherwood, followed bv Albert Cling. Times: 4.37J, 4.46, and MO.?. FEDERAL HANDICAP (harness), of 300 sovs. Class 3.18. One mile and five furlongs. 2 R. McLeod's b g Legacy, by Rothschild -The Gift, aged, 2see (D. Pleasant Mount was first to show out, but with half a mile gone Greta was well clear of her, Peter Mac, and Goldstream. Filtering the concluding circuit Greta had three lengths' advantage of Peter Mac, who was closely followed by Goldstream, Ramitiairi, and The Whip. Three furlongs from itomc Legacy and All Bell raced dtp to the leaders, and the former, staying the better, won comfortably by three lengths. Four lengths further back came The Whip, just in front of Goldstream and Marie Lloyd. Times: 3.51j, 3.515, and 3.573. HEATHCOTE HANDICAP (harness), of 400 sovs. lOsec limit. One mile and aquarter. Charms broke up at the start, and took practically no part in the race. Onyx and J-oganwood cut out the early running, the rest being headed by Peter King and Copa de Oro Junr. Entering the concluding circuit Onyx was well clear of her field, and lasted long enough to defeat Peter King by two lengths. Twice that distance back same Copa de Oro Junr., followed by Cammie and Dandy Rose. Times: 2.59J, 2.57* and 2.585.
