CANTERBURY v. NELSON. I Teams representing the Canterbury and i Nelson Chess Cluhs commenced a telegraphic | chess match on Saturday evening. Owing | to a break in the wires, the contest started | an hour later than the advertised time, and j in consequence the games, in most cases, I did not advance beyond the mid-game stage. They will be continued and coneluded on Saturday next. Finality was reached in three cases, wins being secured j by J. L. Darwin, R. S. Shillito and C. L. ! Hart, all .Cliristehurch players. The game I between H. L. Anderson and E. A. Severne will be played over Hie board next Saturday. | Mr Severne is an old Cliristehurch player, I and is now located at Nelson. He is visiting j C.hristchurch this week. Mr B. A. Joseph is umpiring in Cliristehurch for Nelson, I and Mr A. D. Baggs is acting as an umpire | for Christchurch in Nelson. i
