MEN'S DEMANDS OUTLINED. Preis Association. . AUCKLAND, August 15. Tlie sugar workers at Chelsea tame out on strike at midnight. A telegram was received from the president of the Board of Trade (the Hon. K. P. I-.ee) yesterday, asking the men to hold off a strike, pending a conference here on Tuesday between the Sydney representatives of the company, the chairman of the Board of Trade, and the Conciliation Commissioner (Mr \V. Newton). The union declined to agree, and at a, meeting held this afternoon it was decided to remain on strike until the demands are satisfied. The union secretary, in reply to a request by Mr Lee, through Mr \V. K. Parry, M.P., for information as to points in dispute, telegraphed yesterday as follows:—"Union wants 44 hours, company 4b'. Will accept overtime at rate of time and a half lirst three hours, double after. .I'i.Udays: Christinas Day, Boxing I»ay, New Vear's Bay, pii-uie day, Cood Friday, Easter Monday, Labour Dav, Anniversary Day, King's Birthday. 'Weekly rate wanted: Minimum now £.'! 14/-, want £4 !4/-, i.e., £1 increase per man all round, and 0/ retrospective payment, from May." The union membership is 170. The engineers and litters are stilj working.
