The members of the Highland Pipe Jki«-<1 were the guests on Saturday evening of the president of the band, Mr G. Buist, ami Mrs Buist, at their re?nleine at Avonside. A very pleasant evening was spent with music, games find dancing, many of the dames being flf a Scottish character, the music being mippplied by the pipes. After supper Drum-Major Sneddon, on behalf of the band, thanked the host and hostess for the pleasant evening they had given the members, and referred to the great progress the band had made under the presidency of Mr Buist. A pleasant little fox-trot party was given on Saturday night by the .Misses Marjorie and Alex. Kirk, at their home, "Abberlcy," St. Albans. Dancing took place in the drawing-room, and a dainty little supper was served during nn interval. Miss Macdonald supplied the music, with extras by Miss Audrey Richardson and Miss Meg Garland. Other guests present included the Misses Dulcie MeCredie, Mitchell (2), Drury, Checkley. Bennett, Dorothy Diamond, Xorah Tobin, Poppy Turner, Haskins. Mr and Mrs L. MeredithKaye, Messrs Gordon Rich, R. Wreaks, Livingstone, Buttle, Heathcote Garland, Smith (2>. Jameson (2). Bevnn and JJendle.

A largely attended concert and dance i.a>. held on Wednesday evening in the (ireendale Orange Hall, under the auspices of the local ladies' hockey club. St was much enjoyed by all present, and the arrangements reflected great credit i n the committee, of which Mr C. 11. Adams was chairman. Thanks are due to Mr Edgar, of Messrs Adams, Ltd., l.'hristrhnn-h, and Mr Burt Shipley, • Tarewr.od Road, for kindly motoring out a party of Christchurch artists, who lut on a most enjoyable programme. The concert was opened with a pianoforte solo by Miss l.orrimer, who acted s.s accompanist for the party, which i-oiiiprised Mr and Mrs Lane, Miss Hanna. Miss J. Cocks and Mr Soanes. Afterwards, dancing was indulged in until the early hours of the morning. Music was supplied by Mr 11. Jones, of rhristchurch, and extras by Mrs Christopherson, Miss Clinton and Mr 0. Williams. Mr G. Dean acted as" M.C. Miss Ruddle is displaying in her shop ''The Economic," in Manchester St., rjiposite Hevwood's, some up-to-date black taffeta'skirts of stylish cut. The priie is remarkably cheap and as the line is limited, ladies interested are ildvised to call early and inspect, .7
