SCIENCE RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIP
AWARDED TO AUCKLANDER. Prett Attocittion. WELLINGTON, August 13. Tlie Registrar of the New Zealand University has l>een advised by cablegram from the English agent of the University that the Commissioners have awarded the 1851 exhibition science research scholarship for 1020 to Mr R. Id. Winter, a graduate of Auckland University College. Iu 1913 Mr Winter, -who was then a student at the Auckland Grammar School, gained a University entrance scholarship. After qualifying for the B.Sc. degree and gaining the senior scholarship in Chemistry in 1916, he enlisted anil •rent to the Front with a commission. After being demobilised in England he continued his research work in chemistry at the Imperial Institute, of Technology, anil earned a highly favourable report from Professor Baker. Returnlug to New Zealand late last year, he resumed work under Professor Worlcy, at Auckland, and in November gained the M.Sc. degree, with first-class honours in chemistry. Mr Winter's success is one of the most brilliant of the many fine achievements on the part of New Zealand students who have returned from the War.
