PRICE OF COAL.
To the Editor of THE SUN. Sir, —A few davs ago you published a copy of tho following announcement, sent out. by Cleary ami Belmer, coal merchants, Waltham: — Wc hereby advise flint, owing to a huge increase in the cost of transport and mine charges, and extra charges payable to the (iovernment, we are reluctantly compelled to advance our prices by 24/- per ton, which amount represents the actual increase to us. To your representative, a member'of this firm explained that this notice had been sent to users of Newcastle coal only, and was intended to apply to a shipment brought by the Tensho Marti. L would point out that I have never purchased Newcastle coal from Cleary and Belmer, my purchases having been confined to other classes; yet I have received this notice. What is the explanation of this?—l am, etc., INQUIRER.
