SCHOOL OF FORESTRY.
WHERE WILL IT BE? AUCKLAND CLAIMS URGED. [From Our Own Parliamentary Reporter.] WELLINGTON, August 14. The claims of Auckland to the establishment there of the Dominion School of Forestry were urged upon Ministers this morning by a large deputation from the northern city. The chief argument usedwas that the natural advantages ofAuckland easily outnumbered those of any of the other provinces, the various speakers claiming that Auckland was a natural forest area, while Canterbury was not. There was also a complaint that Auckland had not had its fair share of special University schools, since the University of Otago really "stole" the School of Mines, after it had been promised to Auckland. It was stated that the University Senate, when it was allocating special schools in the early days, had set forestry down for Auckland. The - Rt. Hon. W. F. Massey, in replv. said that he recognised that Auckland possessed great natural advantages, but the situation of the school was one for Cabinet to decide.
