That Okarito Port safe port is proved by the report just received from Captain Thomson, Harbourmaster at Okarito, which states: — "For your information I beg to state that no ships have been lost at Okarito entrance, or inside, to my knowledge for this last 30 years and more; the only ship that was lost here, in that time, was the s.s. Waipaua, which was allowed to wash into the fairway and sink, and was blown up by the Government, as she -was in the way of shipping."
