Large fields are engaged in all the events, and, given a fair track, the racing is sure to be full of interest. Proceedings will commence at 11.5 a.m., and conclude at 4.20 p.m. From London >is reported the death of the well-known jockey* W. Lane, at the age of 37. So far, winning honours amongst the horsemen riding at Biccartou have been well divided. J. T. Humphris and A. Wormald are the only two with more than one success to their credit.

A London cable message states.that Walter Winans, driving a trotter in a race at Parsloes Park, London, collapsed, and called out. asking the bystanders to stop the horse, but before it could be done he fell to the ground, and was picked up, dead. Coalition's time for the Grand National Steeplechase was, with one exception, the slowest on record since the distance was reduced to three and a-half miles. The record for the race is 7min lOsec, put up by Lochella, 12 months ago, and the next best time was put up by Tim Boolan six years ago, when, with 10.2 in the saddle, he ran the journev in 7.11 3-5.

Word is to hand from Melbourne that the New Zealand jumper. Beltane, is amiss, and could not fulfil his engagements at the V.A.T.C. meeting. F. Williams headed the list of New South Wales trainers last season, -with 25i wins, worth £10,804. Next in order came W. Booth 23, H. J. Eobinson 18}, W. Kelso 11, and P. Brown 10.

The V.R.C. committee has set apart£4o,ooo for the creation of a special reserve to build a stand for the use of members and their ladies.

An offer of £IOO,OOO is supposed to have been refused for Tctratema. If true, two foolish men were concerned — the one who made the offer and the one who refused it.

The Grand Prix winner, Comrade, cost but five guineas as a yearling. He is owned jointly by the English trainer, P. P. Gilpin, and the French owner, M. de St. Alary. So far as can be ascertained, it seems that the racehorse Boy Syce, who died recently, was deliberately dealt with by someone antagonistic to the stable, or someone who would benefit by his defeat in the Prince of Wales Cup. Veterinary surgeons could find no trace of "dopes'' of any Kind in any organs, but in the contents of the stomach arsenic was found. This, no doubt, caused the colt's death, and leaves only one conclusion —that Boy Syce was wantonly poisoned. His owner, Mr Evan, recently received an offer from Melbourne for him, the amount being several thousand pounds. Though the track at Addingfon is sure to be heavy on Monday, the racing promises to be of more than average interest. Author Dillon's chance in the National Cup is sure to be prejudiced by the going, and it looks as if Eraiiius

and Albert Cling will take a lot of beating. Beta Peter appears to have a better chance in the Addington Handicap than In the National Cup, and King Capitalist can be expected to put up an improved showing in the former race. Others likely to show up 'well in their respective engagements are Merry Bingen, Mintfton, Xavier, Marie Lloyd, Charms, Partner, and Nancv Stair. TEMPLAB.
