RACING CARNIVAL.

CANTERBURY JOCKEY CLUB. Though the weather conditions were anything but favourable, there was "a fair attendance at Riccarton this afternoon, when the Canterbury Jockey Club's (hand National meeting was brought to a conclusion. Collinson's hj g Gaekwar, aged, 12.2 (Mr Morris) « Grim Joke and Blazeaway were the first to show out, but at Cutts's the former dropped back into fourth place. Racing along the back straight, Blazeaway and Innisfallen were in charge from Grim Joke. Once in line for home Slgnyslan took charge, but he failed to stall off a late, run by Blazeaway, who Avon by a length. Grim .Toko was four lengths away, followed by Gaekwar. Time, 3min 3sec.

When the stand double was reached Golden Grape and Sonny were showing the way from John Bunny. At Cutts's fence Golden Grape was three lengths clear of Sonny, and going along the back Lawsuit ran into second place. When the Kennels double had been negotiated Lawsuit closed on the leader, and tney entered the home stretch on terms. Lawsuit was first over the. final Jump and won very easily by six lengths from Golden Grape. Eight lengths further back came John Bunny, followed by Sonny. Time, smln 20sec. Dainty Step made the early running from Clean Sweep and Sir Fanciful. Going round the top turn Arch Salute Joined Clean Sweep, and, us they straightened up for the run home, •there was little between this pair and Dainty Step. At the distance Dainty Step was In charge, but in a great finish Arch Salute got the better of her by half a length. Over a length back came Bengeroop, followed by Sir Fanciful. Time, lmin 36gsec.
