CHARGES OF MANSLAUGHTER.

RESULT OF MOTOR ACCIDENTS. Press Association. PALMERBTON NORTH, Aug. LI. The Supreme Court was occupied all day with the manslaughter charge against Warren Newth, arising out of a recent motor accident, which resulted in the deaths of Arthur Ernest Eglinton, Alfred Edward Penny, and Eraser Kidman. The evidence for the prosecution was that Eglinton 's car, which was lighter, was travelling at a moderate pace on the correct side of the road. Police tests in the locality showed that the accused, with ordinary care, should have seen Eglinton's car, even if it was unlighted. In opening the defence, counsel intimated that he would call only independent eye-witnesses who saw Eglinton's ear approaching unlighted, and Newth "s lighted. The accused, giving evidence, said ho never exceeded a speed of 28 miles. Although taking every precaution, he never saw the approaching car until the impact. The case was not concluded when the Court adjourned till tomorrow. COMMITTED TOR TRIAL. Prese Association. HAMILTON, August 13. At the Police Court John Johnstone, charged with manslaughter, arising out of the recent accident to Mrs Maria Turner, aged ninety, who was knocked down dry a car driven by the accused, and subsequently died, was committed for trial at the Supreme Court.
