PRICE OF COAL.
To the Editor of THE SUN. Sir, —A few days ago you published a copy of the following aniiouneeinent. sent out by Cleary and Belmer, coal merchants, Waltham: — We hereby advise (hat, owing to a huge increase in' the cost of transport and in hie charges, and extra charges payable to the Government, we arc reluctantly compelled to advance our prices by 21/- per ton, which amount represents the actual increase to us. To your representative, a member of this firm explained that this notice had been sent to users of Newcastle coal only, and was intended to apply to a shipment brought by the Tensho Maru. I would point out that I have never purchased Newcastle coal from Cleary and Belmer, my purchases having been confined to other classes; yet I have received this notice. What is the explanation of tillsT —I am, etc., INQUIRER.
