The Collector < I Customs states that, owing to the had weather, the Tutanckai. which is to sail for the Chalhailis, will not leave Wellington until Monday. She will be at I.yttelton or 1 - Tuesday morning to pick up passengers. Owing to the heavy weather the Wnhine vas the only vessel to venture out of Wellington last evening. She left at 8.30 and from the outset until she reached Kaikoura this morning, she encountered a howling south-east gale and big sca>s, her decks being continually awash. Further discomfort was occasioned by heavy rain and a thick haze. Under the circumstances the vessel made a very good passage, reaching port at 9.35. UNION S.S. COMPANY. The Manuka arrived here yesterday afternoon from Sydney, via Wellington, but was unable to make a start at the discharge of her cargo on account of the rain. She is now timed to sail on Monday for Port Chalmers t'l undergo -urvey. The crew of the Kamo was paid off at Wellington on Wednesday as the vessel Is to be laid up for survey and overhaul, j The Wanaka was to have changed her articles at Wellington on Thursday. The Paloona is to leave Melbourne to-day for Bluff, Dunedin, I.yttelton, and Wellington. The Navua has been booked to sail from Auckland for I.yttelton, via East Coast polls and Wellington, on August 21. The Union Co., agents for the Orient Line, have been advised that the steamer Indarra ha? been withdrawn from the London-Aus-tralian service. PICTON AND NELSON SERVICE. A deputation consisting of representatives of the Marlborough, Nelson and Wellington Progress Leagues waited on Tuesday upon Mr W. A. Kennedy, Wellington, manager of the Union Steam Ship Co.. and urged that a more efficient steamer service be provided between Picton and Nelson. Mr Kennedy was sympathetic, and said that thr services had not proved a financial success as far as his company was concerned, but hj(» admitted thai the request was worthy of consideration. The company had decided to meet the wishes of the deputation as far as possible, and arrangements had been made to rim the Arahura on a day service to Picton. and the Mapourika would run between Wellington and Nelson. KINSF.Y AND CO. The F. and S. liner Somerset which is taking in at this port for New York, 90,000 Carcases of frozen meat, and 1500 casks of fallow, has been hampered l,v the broken weather recently. It will prohablv he near the end of next week before the vessel is ready for final dispatch. The Leitrini, from Liverpool, via Auckland and Wellington, should reach LylteltoH towards the end of next week. The Shropshire, a vessel of 12,500 tons d.w., which is due in New Zealand about thr end of the next month to load for the United Kingdom, will carry first-class- paslengers only. The Wakatu and Baden-Powell, which were delayed here yesterday, have been fixed to sail this evening, the former for

Kailcoura and Wellington, and the latter for Wellington. The Huddart-Parkcr steamer Ulima'roa, due at Wellington . on Monday, is to sail on Thursday next for Sydney and Hobart. CANTERBURY S.S. COMPANY. The Calm was expected at Dunedin yesterday from Wellington, but, according to information yesterday, the vessel was sheltering that morning at Akaroa. It is now anticipated that it will be Thursday next before she reaches Lytcltoii from the south to load for Castlecliff. The Karu is to sail to-day for Wellington with a load of general commodities. The Breeze, from Wanganui, should arrive here on Wednesday next, and, after discharging part of her freight, will load for Dunedin and Timaru. The Storm was taken out of dock yesterday afternoon, and left to-day for Dunedin and Timaru. A. RHrND AND CO. The auxiliary schooner Lily, under ordinary conditions, should have arrived at Lyttelton yesterday from Wellington, but it is presumed that she may have been obliged to shelter from the strong winds and heavy sea. Probably she will reach her destination either to-day or to-morrow, in which event she will be dispatched on the return trip on Tuesday. The auxiliary brigantiue Aratapu is due I here to-morrow, and at present is timed to sail on Wednesday for Wellington. The Wootton is to leave Wellington to-day for Lyttelton. Like the other two vessels mentioned, she will ]oad general merchandise for the north port also, and Is to take her departure early on Tuesday. WESTPORT COAL COMPANY. The Canopus is set down for sailing this evening lor Westport to load for Timaru. F. E. SUTTON AND CO. The Orepnki is due at Lyttelton this evening with a full load of timber from Greymouth, for which port she is to sail on i Wednesday next. PERSONAL. Mr G. Conway, of Auckland, and late of the Union Company's service, is joining the Government steamer Hinemoa as second officer. Mr T. Walker, of the Union Company's service,, has joined the Marama as purser, in place of Mr Ferguson. Captain B. Irwin, who took the Moana from Port Chalmers to Wellington, has gone , on, holiday leave. OVERSEAS VESSELS. The Ayrshire should reach Auckland from Liverpool about the beginning.of next week. From Wellington she will come on to Lyttelton where she may arrive about August 25. She will put out the remainder of her cargo at Dunedin. The Abadesa, which left Colombo on July 24 for Newcastle, will be loaded in NewZealand by the New Zealand Shipping Co. The Trcwcllard and the Carpentaria, under charter to the A. and A. Co., arc loading at New York for New Zealand ports. The C. and I), liner Port Hacking, which Is expected to arrive at Wellington from Port Kembla, .via Napier, on August 18, has been timed to sail six days v latcr for London via Panama. The Port Darwin will be due at Auckland on September 12. On completion of discharge she will load frozen mutton at Whakatane and Wellington, and is to sail from the last-named port on September 28 for London. i The steamers Clan Macarthur and Clan Macrae, units of the famous Clan Line, have been purchased by the Scottish Shire Line, Ltd., the former has been renamed the Berwickshire and the latter the Banffshire. The other vessels of the line are the Ayrshire 9188 tons, and the Argyllshire 12,097 tons. The steamer Nissei Maru, 2846 tons, under charter to the Eastern Australian S.S. Co.. has arrived at Sydney from China and .Japan. Portion of her cargo is for Wellington. N.Z. SHIPPING CO.'S LINE. The Hororata arrived in Wellington on August 12, to complete her loading, for New York. The Opawa, Homeward bound, left Newport News on August 10. The Woodarra leaves London about September 10. She loads for Lyttelton, Port Chalmers and Bluff.
