The intercolonial steamer Manuka reached J.vltcllon this afternoon from Sydney, via Wellington, with 800 tons of cargo, including transhipments ex the Pacifiuue, Bultara,. Tango Maru, Madras Maru, Orsova, Hena, Ormonde, Tropic, and Wakatipu. She is to Be dispatched to-morrow for Port Chalmers, •where she will undergo survey. The Maori had to contend against a strong southerly and heavy sea last night, and did not reach Lyttelton until 3.20 this morning, or about two hours behind her usual time. ; The Pohcrua left here last night for Westport, where she will load coal, piohahlv for Wellington. The Kamona, Jaden with timber from Greymouth, is due at this poit on Sunday. The Waitonio, at present at Dunedin, is to loaJ general cargo and produce at Oamaru, Tlmaru. and Lyttelton for Auckland. The Talune's departure from Auckland for the Eastern Pacific was postponed until 10-day. The Te Anau was to leave Wellington yes•Jerday afternoon for Timaru an I Bluff. The auxiliary schooner Lily, which left Wellington on Wednesday night, may reach Lyttelton to-day. At present she Is set down for sailing on Monday on the return trip with a cargo of mixed merchandise. The Aratapu Is to leave Wellington today for this p'ort, and should arrive tomorrow. After landing her general freight she will load again for Wellington. REDPATH & SONS. The Tensho Maru, after completing discharge of her coal cargo, is to leave here to-morrow for Newcastle, where she will take in a load of coal for Auckland. SHIPPING AT WELLINGTON. On Wednesday there were no fewer than 10 overseas vessels at Wellington loading or discharging, in addition to a large number of coasters. As the labour was inadequate to meet the demand, a number of vessels, including the Marama, which is to sail to-morrow for San Francisco, were delayed. PERSONAL. Mr H. Frith, second engineer of the Maori, has left the vessel, and Mr S. i. Munn has Joined as third engineer. Captain A. Barlow has resumed command of the Moana, and he has with him the following officers:—Chief, Mr W. A. Gray; second, Mr C. Sharp; chief engineer, Mr J. McArtliur: second, Mr A. Macdonald; chief steward, Mr Burn; purser, Mr Neale; wire less operator, Mr J. Hutson. Mr A. Addic has joined the Ngahere as second engineer, vice Mr S. A. Murray, who went ashore at Wellington yesterday. Captain George Hooper, of the New Zealand Marine Department, who has been in England in connection with the selection of a suitable training ship, has, since his appointment as Nautical Adviser and Chief Examiner of Masters and Mates, been in constant touch with the Marine Department and the Board of Trade for the purpose of receiving instruction and investigating the methods of conducting the Board of Trade examinations in Great Britain, and has been very busy attending the various marine examination rooms in London, Liverpool and i Glasgow. Captain Hooper has also paid visits to the Admiralty Compass Depot at Slough, and the Chronometer Hating Establishment at Greenwich.

OVERSEAS STEAMERS. The steamer Canberra, which was requisitioned during the War for service abroad, and established a splendid record for service as a troonship, is again in commission on the Australian coast, under the Australian Steamship's flag, looking spick and spanafter her overhaul at the Cockatoo dockyard. She is now practically a new shin. The Canberra has always been popular with the travelling public, on the grounds of snecd and comfort. She lias accommodation for 108 first, saloon, 190 second, ami 120 third-class passengers, special attention having been given t# the state rooms, main saloon, and social hall. Captain W. Hurford is in command. The Shaw, Savill and Albion Company's liner Kia Ora was unable to work at Gisborne on Monday and Tuesday owing to the severity of the weather. The Hororata, having been delayed at Wanganni, is now timed to leave Wellington on Tuesday or Wednesday for New "York, via Panama. The New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Otarania. which is taking in coal at Newcastle for Wellington, will he loaded at New Plymouth, Waitara and Wellington, for London. The. Rimutaka is to sail from Wellington on Tuesday for Auckland, and is to leave that nort finally on September 7 for London,! via Panama. The Ruahine is to leave Wellington at daylight on Sunday for Gisborne, to commence loading for Home. The Kaikoura should now be en route from Montreal with Canadian cargo for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Dunedin, Melbourne and Sydney. She should reach Auckland about the middle of September. . The Canastola having been interrupted by heavy rain at Auckland on Wednesday, her departure for Wellington was indefinitely nostnoned. The City of Corinth, which will be due at Auckland on August 24 from New York, is a new steamer of 0173 tons gross register, and 391 ft in length. She was built in 1918, by W. Cray and Co., of West Hartlepool, for the Ellerman Line, and is a steel screw steamer with two decks and n cruiser stern. The Shropshire is due in New Zealand about the end of September to load far the Un'ted Kingdom. The Port Darwin is reported to have lfft Colombo on August 2 for Melbourne, Auckland and Wellington. The American schooner William E. Burnham, which left Wellington on July 12 in ballast for Newcastle, arrived there on the night of July 28. in a disabled condition, in tow of ■ the ■ steamer Mackarra. The schooner ran into heavy weather when some distance from the New South Wales coast, and became disabled as a result of an accident to her steering gear. She was sigted off Cape Howkc on the morning of July 28 in a helpless condition, and was picked up some time later by the Mackarra, which was bound from Sydney to Queensland ports. *
