Golden Prince was followed over the Kennels double by Ormesby, Merry Lad, and San Sebastian. Setting a strong pace, Golden Prince led past the stand from Oakleigh, Ormesby, and Merry Lad, with Stone Ginger toiling hopelessly in the rear. Once over Cutts's fence Oakleigh ran up to Golden Prince, and, going strong, the pair opened up a useful lead from Ormesby and San Sebastian. The leading pair were practically on terms as the Kennels double was approached, the second of which saw Golden Prince part company with his rider. This left Oakleigh right out by himself, and, jumping in great style, he won very easily by six lengths from Crib, who put in a good run over the last six furlongs.
