Glentanuer left the last five of six furlongs behind in 1.7 2-5. Onlooker and Naughty Boy were given a couple of turns over the pony hurdles, but the showing was not too good. They were afterwards sprinted. Nautical did strong, useful work, and Checkmate and Stoepholm were together at the conclusion of five furlongs, run in 1.4 2-.^. North Sea did steady work, as did Acquittal, who is still sore. Clean Sweep sprinted three furlongs well. Sundance, who has settled down well under R. Ellis, sprinted four furlongs easily in 53sec, with a good weight up. Bombproof, alone, did not please by the way he left five furlongs behind in 1.5 2 5, being kicked along over the concluding stages, Moutoa Ivanovo, who won the Manchester Handicap at Feilding yesterday, is a full sister to Sasanof, but, so far, has given little suggestion of that fact in her public efforts. She is engaged in the Manawatu Cup at 21b more than she carried in yesterday's race, and. having struck form, may give a good account of herself. All the best of the season's three-

year-olds that have so far sported silk I figure in the list of acceptors for the New Zealand Trotting Derby. Amongst them are winners in Saints' Bell, Doralilina and Ladv Swithin, while such as Milda Pointer.'Billy Dillon, Nell Pointer, Jean Logan. Oratorio ;\n\ Wild Briar have performed well enough as to suggest their having favourable prospects. Progeny of imported sires in Logan Pointer. Harold Dillon, Petercta and Brent Locanda figure prominently in the list, while, of the locally-bred'stal-lions, Wihlwood .Inn. is the best represented. As_so many of the best horses figuring in the Manawatu Cup also claim engagement in the Auckland Cup. there is sure to be a heavy defection from" the former race. The two handicappers are fairly in agreement, though, naturally, there is a smaller rang' 1 in the weights at Manawatu than at Ellerslie. Snub has got a few pounds extra in the Manawatu Cup, as the result of the good race he put up in the St. Andrew's Handicap at. Feilding. The extra half-mile at Ellerslie should be all in his favour, and his prospects there appear brighter than ai Manawatu. Client's chance is hard to gauge, but if in anything like

his best form he should be the best of all the heavy-weights to follow. Uncle Ned will, probably remain at Ellerslie, as he is already one of the fancied candidates for the Auckland Cup. Punka appears to have a full share of weight at 8.9, and Nobleman is to be preferred on the same mark. Though Dusky Eve did not race up to expectations at Peilding, he cannot be left out of consideration, but more to be preferred is Kilrush, at 21b less. The Kilbroney gelding is reported to have freshened up since his return home from Ricearton, and he must have more than average prospects. Red Ribbon, Battle Song and Impediment are others claiming engagements at Ellerslie, but Dribble and First Salute can be looked on as likely starters. There are a number of speedy ones amongst the light-weight division, but the majority of them have no credentials over a mile ami a-half course. Probably the most improved horse seen out at the Feilding meeting -was the Australian-bred Acre. On the first day he registered a surprise win in the Feilding Slakes, and on the strength of that performance was installed favourite for the Oroua Stakes yesterday. This he also won, but it was only after a battle royal with the unlucky Croesus that he got the verdict. Ever since his arrival from Australia, Acre has had a great private reputation for speed, but in most of his races the son of Linacre could not be induced to make the best use of it. Another winner yesterday was Arrowfield, who, like Acre, was purchased in Australia, as a yearling, by F. Tilley, on behalf of the Wanganui sportsman, Mr YV. A. Duncan. Very fair support has been accorded the Kaikoura Racing Club for its annual meeting, to be held on Boxing Day. In face of such strong opposition, in the shape of more important fixtures, little patronage from Ricearton stables could be expected, and the competitors are confined almost entirely to locallytrained animals. A record entry of 111 yearlings has been forwarded'for Hie New Zealand Trotting Derby of 1922. All the principal owners in the Dominion are represented, and the juveniles arc a particularly well bred lot. On Friday, entries close, for the Auckland Trotting Club's Summer Meeting. At the same time, final payments for the Great Northern Trotting Derby (1919-20) and first acceptances for the Derby of 1920-21 must be made good. It 'is reported that, at the conclusion of the Forbury Dark Trotting Club's meeting, Balnnmoan and Hectorata were returned to their respective owners in Southland. Mr A. Bissett, of Lome, reports that Author Dillon's half-sister, Merer., by Galindo, has foaled a eolt foal to (.'oldstream Bells. The new arrival is a halfbrother to the Logan Pointer filly, Glade, who recently proved successful at the Kurow fixture, held at Oamaru. It is claimed that the colt has thrown back to the dam of Coldstream Bells, that good mare Sal Tasker, being very like that clever performer of other days. TEMPLAR.
