BOROUGH COUNCILS.

f WOOLSTON. ■ The fortnightly meeting of the Woolston Borough Council was held last evening, there being present:—The Mayor (Mr C. , Hill), Crs T. N. Champ, .1. C. llohsan, L. ' ! Hart, G. T. Radcliffe. * I The Works Committee recommended that, ! in renumbering Perry Road, from Elisor's , and Aldwin's Roads, the numbers remain as ' at present, but that from Radley bridge tlie houses be renumbered at the council's , expense, and that numbers be supplied to 5 those having house numbers. Painting , should be done where numbers are at present painted. The recommendation was I adopted. The Electricity Committee reported that ■ five houses had been wired since last meeting, and additions had been made to one. ■ Orders were in hand for wiring eight i houses. The report was adopted. The Finance Committee recommended, and it was agreed, that the usual grant or V.2 10/- be made to the Technical College. | The Town Clerk reported that lour build- : ing permits, totalling £lO5, had been issued. ' A letter was received from the Woolston j Horticultural Society in regard to a grant ! for a show to be held on January 17. It I was decided to refer the matter to the | Finance Committee, with the recommeudaition that the society should be asked to co- , I operate with sports bodies in holding a ' ! fete on that date in the park, a certain per- ! ceirtage of the takings to be devoted to the I erection of a pavilion as a War Memorial. I A letter was received from the manager ]of the Woolston Tanneries, stating that it i had .been decided not to proceed with the manufacture of muriatic acid or sodium, as ; ' it was found that these chemicals were proi curable from other countries. i SUMNER. The Taylor's Mistake Surf Club wrote ask- I ing that conveniences be erected on the' Taylor's Mistake beach. It was resolved to refer Uie matter to the Works Committee ' for consideration of the cost of erection of two dressing-rooms. A letter v, as received from a ratepayer, requesting that his electric meter be tested. As the meter system had proved most unsatisfactory, the council decided to place tiie matter in the hands of the engineer for investigation. The residents of Cliff Street wrote object-| ing lo the underground drain proposed to lie made by the council. The letter arose j out of a request by the Health Department ! I to the residents of Cliff Street for the discontinuance of the flow of household drainage into the channel. The council had ' oll'ered to lay down an underground drain, I provided the residents contributed half the cost. It was decided to write, pointing out that the request of the Public Health Department must be complied with.

The Redcliffs Hull Committee forwarded particulars regarding the erection of a halt at a proposed cost of £3500. .It was decided to refer the whole matter to the Works Committee to bring forward a definite report, and to ask the Redcliffs Hall Committee to forward plans of the proposed building. It was also recommended that a meeting of residents be held at an early date, to which the ■information obtained will be submitted.
