THE SAMOAN GARRISON.

MEAT SUPPLIES SHIPPED. Press Association. AUCKLAND, November 28. A settlement of the difficulty with the wharf labourers with regard to their refusal to handle tinned meat and other butchers' supplies for the Islands was arrived at to-day, as far as the requirements of the garrison at Samoa were concerned. Negotiations were carried on during the morning by the Conciliation Commissioner and the president of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce with representatives of the Transport Workers' Advisory Board. Eventually it was agreed, on the part of the butchers', drivers' and watersiders' unions, that a quantity of tinned meats, canned soup, and bacon, necessary for the Christmas supplies of the garrison, should be shipped on the steamer Talune. The goods were in duo course placed on board. Supplies of meat for private traders and settlers, and tins of preserved meat were, however, left on the wharf. There was no change in the position in regard to the meat shops in the city. A meeting of the Butchers' Union is to be held to-morrow, to consider the situation as a result of the failure of the conference with the employers on Thursday afternoon.
