MALE VOICE CHOIR.

SCHOLARSHIP ESTABLISHED. The Christchurch Mnlc Voice Choir, at a recent meeting, decided upon the establishment of a vocal scholarship. 'Hie lion. secretary of the choir (Mr 11. Blakeley) has outlined the scheme as follows: A vocal scholarship, to he known as the "Christchurch Male Voice Choir Scholarship." tenable for three years commencing in 1920, will he competed for nt the end of this year. It" will he open to ladies or gentlemen. The value of the scholarship will be 21 guineas per annum. Lady candidates for the scholarship must not exceed 21 years of age, gentlemen candidate must not exceed 23 years of age, on January 1, 1!)20. Scholars will he chosen as the result of an examination held by the conductor of the Male Voice Choir, and an outside expert chosen by the committee. The successful candidate will receive tuition from a teacher of his or her own choice, but who must be approved by the committee. The student must attend at least two weekly lectures in theoretical music and ear training at Canterbury College, ss arranged by the lecturer In music. The student will be expected to prepare for the practical examinations of the Associated Board, and the theoretical examinations <>f Canterbury Collego. A yearly report as to the student's industry and progress will he required from the teacher, and the student must be prepared to undergo an examination in his or her work at the end of each year, if desired .by the committee. The committee reserves the power of withholding the granting of the scholarship if it is felt that outstanding ability is not forthcoming at the examination, and also of terminating the scholarship at the cud of any year.
