CHILD MAINTENANCE BILL. Bu Cable. — Press Association. — Copyright. (Roc. Nov. 7, 9.35) SYDNEY, Nov. 7. The Legislative Council defeated the Child Maintenance Bill, Mr Carruthers moving a vital amendment providing that, where the wages exceeded the Board of Trade's living wage, the increases granted by the Court should diminish on a sliding scale until the amount of £350 yearly was reached. This was carried by 18 votes to 14.
