"FIGHT THE FAMINE."
CONFERENCE IN LONDON. By Cable. —Pre** Association. — Copyright. ("The Times") LONDON, Nov. 4. The public is watching the gathering of Germans for the "Fight the Famine" Council's International Conference with alert, though disdainful, interest. America, France, Holland, Russia and Belgium are represented. Sir George Paish explains that the conference is designed to overcome the food scarcity, restore exchange, credit, transport, and the old social and political relations. The Government granted passports on condition that the conference is secret. The economic and financial situation is exceedingly dangerous. Europe faces bankruptcy and chaos. The first step is to make all peoples understand the peril. Then the statesmen can take the necessary measures. The council insists that no part of Europe can be omitted from its survey, Decause only international action can be effective. FIFTY DELEGATES ATTEND. > (A. & N.Z.) . LONDON. Nov. 4. Fifty delegates attended the secret "Fight the Famine" Council at Caxton Hall', including ex-enemy delegates, who testified to the sufferings in Austro-Germany and Russia owing to famine and breakdown. Professor Starling said he believed millions would die of starvation in Germany in the coming winter.
