KNOCKED DOWN BY TAXI. Press Assaeiatiom WELLINGTON, November 6. This afternoon the wife of Detective Black was knocked down by a taxi-cab while crossing Courtenay Place, and killed. It is believed that death was almost instantaneous, her skull being fractured and other injuries inflicted. A middle-aged man named Michael Piggott, employed in the plough department at Messrs Cooper and Duncan's, received injurie's to his face and hands yesterday, and was admitted to the Christchurch Hospital. Piggott is an ex-petty officer qf H.M.S.. New Zealand, who bought his discharge during the vessel's visit to the Dominion recently.
