PROFESSOR VON ZEDLITZ

WANGANUI COUNCIL'S ACTION. SUPPORTED BY EDUCATION BOARD. "At the meeting of the Canterbury Education Board this afternoon, a ,letter was received, from the Wanganui Borough Council, asking the board to co-operato with it in resisting the attempt to reinstate Professor von Zedlitz as Professor of Modern Languages at Victoria College, Wellington. Mr W. A. Banks asked if the board wad sure it was intended to reinstate Professor Ton Zedlitz. The secretary (Mr H. C. Lane) said he understood that Sir Robert Stout had stated that Professor von Zedlitz would not be reinstated, and that the position was being advertises. Of course, it would be open to Professor von Zedlitz to apply for the position. Mr G. W. Annitage moved that the board support* the Wanganui council, Mr H. Maze seconding. An amendment was moved that the letter be. received. The amendment was lost, the division being:—For: Messrs W. A. Banks and T. Hughes. Against: Messrs E. H. Andrews, C. 11. Opie, C. S. Howard, R. Maze, G. W. Annitage, J. Jamiesou, A. Peverill, and the Hon. J. Grimmond, M.L.C. It was agreed to support the wanganui council
